A succinct summary of Combigan:

Combigan is a combination therapy that employs two effective drugs for the treatment of Glaucoma and ocular hypertension (high pressure inside the eye). High pressure inside the eye is the leading cause of blindness in many, and the reduction of this pressure is of extreme importance to prevent blindness. This product encloses Brimonidine and Timolol. These medications are used together to attain synergistic effects i.e. double the effect.

Mode of action of Combigan:

Timolol is the first β blocker approved to be used opthalmically for the treatment of open-angle glaucoma. It works by reducing the formation of aqueous humor by ciliary body in the eye. It reduces the intraocular pressure by 18–34% below baseline within few days of treatments.

Brimonidine is a α2 agonist, that inhibits the action of adenylate cyclase which in turn reduces the cAMP concentration and therefore the aqueous humor production by the ciliary body.

Posology of Combigan:

Apply one drop of Combigan in the affected eye two times a day, maintaining a gap of  12 hours. Incline you head backward and pull the eyelids to create a pouch.
